In Bangladesh, 1 Vori = 11.6638 grams of gold.
It doesn’t matter if you’re dealing with local gold sellers/jewelers or official associations like BAJUS (the Bangladesh Jewellers Association) — that 11.6638g conversion is standard.
You’ll occasionally see sources listing slightly different values (like jeweler websites quoting rounded numbers), but 11.6638g is modern-day Bangladesh’s official conversion rate for gold.
Vori Conversion Chart: Why You Care
Here are some reasons why knowing the Vori unit will become important to you:
Gold prices are listed per Vori (NOT per gram) in Bangladesh
Gold jewelry stores list price by Vori weight
When researching international gold prices (from countries that use the metric system/gold prices by gram) you’ll need to convert from/to grams

Why This Tool Will Actually Save You Money
Here’s a little secret your local jeweler won’t warn you about.
When you see gold prices, they’re quoted as “price per Vori”.
Example: current gold rate is ৳90,000 per Vori.
Let’s say you see a necklace you like which weighs 4.5 Vori.
If you do the math yourself: 4.5 x 90,000 = ৳4,05,000 for that necklace’s gold weight alone.
Now what if your jeweler grabbed a digital gram scale and told you the necklace “weighs 52 grams”?
Does that number match up with what your eye is telling you on the Vori scale?
52 ÷ 11.6638 = 4.4999 Vori Yes, that seems about right.
But what if the scale said 55 grams instead?
55 ÷ 11.6638 = 4.714 Vori = That’s a difference of .214 Vori, which equals ৳19,260 at today’s gold rate.
That’s not worth overlooking.
Doing this math on your own (which only takes seconds on a calculator or smartphone) empowers you as a buyer. You don’t have to rely on the jeweler’s calculations. You know what to expect.
Where Does the Vori Come From?
Bangladesh has a long tradition of gold jewelry. Whether you’re getting Bengali bridal jewelry sets, wedding gold gifts, simple gold studs for daily wear – gold is an important part of life across the country.
Bangladesh’s national stock of gold is used for investments, gifts at weddings, savings, inheritances, birthdays and festivals.
The Vori (ভরি) is a standard unit of gold measurement that most Bengalis who buy gold grow up learning. Parents used it. Grandparents used it.
As more Bangladeshis start investing in international gold markets online (check out gold.pk), comparing global jewelry sites/places to buy gold, and looking up LBMA gold prices – knowing grams will become important to know as well.
The gram is how international markets list their gold price. X gold per gram or per troy ounce.
Knowing how to convert between Vori and grams goes beyond just buyers looking to get the best price. Here are some groups who may also find this tool useful:
Bangladeshi jewelry stores that buy international gold bullion
Gold importers/exporters who deal with international bullion shipments
Gold investors who follow gold as a commodity
Bangladeshis abroad (NRBs) who buy gold while traveling
Students/researchers looking into gold commodity markets
Did we mention jewelers who buy gold? Since they’re buying gold in grams from abroad, but sell to customers by the Vori – they’ll need this tool too.
Vori vs. Tola vs Gram: Differences Explained
The Tola is another word you may have seen in older textbooks, Indian jewelry shops, or Pakistani jewelry sites.
Let’s compare units:
| Unit Name | Used for | Gram Value | Notes |
| 1 Vori (BD) | Bangladesh | 11.6638 g | Standardized by BAJUS |
| 1 Tola | India/Pakistan | 11.6638 g | Alias for Vori – same value |
| 1 Gram | Metric System | 1 g | International gram unit |
| 1 Troy Ounce | International Markets | 31.1035 g | Used when quoting global gold prices |
As you can see, 1 Vori is equal to 1 Tola — they just go by different names depending on where you are in South Asia.
India uses the term “Tola”. Bangladesh uses “Vori”. Same value, same gram-equivalent.
If you ever get tripped up reading gold prices between Indian gold and Bangladeshi gold, remember this — treat Vori and Tola units as one in your head.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does 11.6638 change over time? The number of grams in one Vori is fixed. It’s a standardized measurement unit (just like 1 kilogram is always 1000 grams). The price of gold per Vori changes, yes.
My jeweler says 1 Vori is 11.664 grams. Are they wrong? No, that’s not wrong. Some websites (usually older jewelry store websites in Bangladesh) will round the number to 11.664 or even truncate it to 11.66. There are 11.6638 grams in a Vori. If you’re buying a few Vori of gold, that tiny amount won’t matter.
But if you’re buying 50 Vori or more – it starts adding up!
Can I use this converter for silver? Yes, but you probably won’t need to. The Vori is not a unit unique to gold — since it’s simply a weight measurement, it can be used for silver too. However, silver is practically sold by the gram or kilogram in Bangladesh. You can still use this tool for silver if you need to convert.
How do I know if I’m being cheated?
Check out the gold rate per Vori from BAJUS or a reputable financial news outlet. Use our converter to confirm the number of grams your jeweler says the gold necklace is. Multiply the Vori value by the gold rate per Vori they provide you. Add making charges, VAT and any other fees on top of that.
Is this converter free? Yes! We don’t ask for any email addresses or force you to login anywhere. Completely free to use. Always will be.
